Wireless services provider T-Mobile USA is currently rolling-out a software update for one of the latest handsets that landed on its airwaves, the Sidekick 4G.
The smartphone was launched at t-Mobile as the successor of the popular Sidekick line on the carrier’s airwaves.
Running under Google’s Android operating system, the smartphone comes from Samsung, but sports the same Sidekick design as the previous models did.
The new software update will not upgrade the operating system on Sidekick 4G to a newer version, but it should deliver fixes and improvements, it seems.
Unfortunately, the wireless carrier did not announce what exactly was included in the software update, though they did mentioned that this was not the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update that many might have been waiting for to emerge.
In a post on its support forums, the wireless carrier announced last week that a new update was coming to Sidekick 4G devices:
An Over the Air software update for the Sidekick 4G will be pushed to customers beginning the night of July 21. This software update will be delivered in staggered waves, with several thousand customers receiving it each night over the next several days.
The OTA updates the software version to version T839UVKG2. This is not an operating system upgrade to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). This maintenance release includes various bug fixes and enhancements based on customer feedback.
Accept and install the update as it includes many important fixes that will improve your experience with this device.
T-Mobile has not unveiled an expected time frame for the completion of this software update roll-out until now, but we can imagine that it should not take too long before all Sidekick 4G users receive it.
Hopefully, the aforementioned Gingerbread upgrade will arrive in the near future as well, so as to provide users with additional functionality and features.
